Suria Sabah is a modern 1-stop city center shopping mall, designed with our beloved Sabahans and tourists in mind, and with a strong focus on local community building. The city center of Kota Kinabalu where the seeds of commerce was planted pre-independence, i.e. where Standard Chartered Bank, HSBC, Harrison’s Trading are located, is more than half a century old. Now this part of Kota Kinabalu has developed to be one of the most vibrant city centers in the country with a balanced commerce activity and also functions as a tourism hub supported by many hotels, tourist attraction spots, transportation to the islands, and enjoying the magnificent view of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. This city center is still rapidly growing and evolving with newer buildings and hotels. As our honorable Mayor, Datuk Abidin Madingkir once complimented that Suria Sabah which came into Kota Kinabalu city center picture 6 years ago as timely, in tandem with Kota Kinabalu city center’s rapid progress, and is just what Kota Kinabalu city needs to serve the city dwellers, outstation Sabahan and tourists alike. We are honored that our Lord Mayor further commented that Suria Sabah is Kota Kinabalu’s landmark Shopping Mall.
With it’s city center location, surrounded by a matured commercial area where all the banks and most of the prominent corporate offices are located. Some of these corporate landmark buildings include Standard Chartered bank, HSBC, Maybank, CIMB, RHB, Public Bank, Alliance, Affin and OCBC close vicinity.
The city center has about 100 big and small hotels and lodges, which last surveyed have more than 6000 rooms. There is a plan of 6000 more rooms will be built around the city area of Kota Kinabalu. Within walking distance from Suria Sabah alone lies major hotels such as the adjoining Grandis Hotel, the iconic Jesselton Hotel, the Hyatt Regency, Le Meridien, Horizon Hotel, Capital Hotel and Hotel 63 to name a few. Briefly speaking, Suria Sabah is located where commercial and tourist activity is most concentrated. Furthermore, being a small city, the city center still remains the heart of activity for the local population. Hence, the catchment for Suria Sabah is the best KK has to offer, because the customer profile consists mainly of the higher earning group and tourists. For that, Suria Sabah is positioned to be a mid-mid, mid-up city center shopping mall offering a wide selection of international and regional brands, coupled with Malaysian and Sabahan chain stores, eateries and boutiques. On top of the range of shops, we are also very active in hosing and providing venue to all sorts of events, competitions, expos and fairs with a focus on community building.
On top of the above, Kota Kinabalu is positioned as the hub of Borneo (even surpassing Brunei and Miri), much like Kuala Lumpur’s as the hub of West Malaysia.
This means that it receives a lot of outstation tourists’ shopping receipts from Brunei, Miri, and smaller towns such as Sandakan, Tawau, Kudat, Lahad Datu, Marudu…
Suria Sabah is also just a 3-minute walking distance from the public jetty, Jesselton Point, which is the main access point to the Tunku Abdul Rahman marine national park (comprised of 4 islands). Every day, the jetty has on average over more than 1,500 tourists visiting the islands. Since Suria Sabah is located in between the islands and the main city stretch where most hotels are located, many of these tourists walk through Suria Sabah mall on a daily basis.
Looking forward into the coming 6 to 12 months, Suria Sabah will continue to evolve and welcoming more in demand and popular brands to cater to the cities needs and wishes. Our management team is committed to continuously strive and serve our beloved Sabahan and tourists alike by constantly bringing in new elements into the mall and also providing the Sabahan hospitality at its best.
Be our continued successful stories of the unique business model of combining warmth and commerce that only Suria Sabah can bring to you.
In 2013, with much blessing, Suria Sabah won the prestigious Best Shopping Complex 2013/2014 Award, presented by Sabah Tourism Board. The award is very meaningful to our management and our staff because it truly gives us a very strong encouragement, for the dedication and effort we have put in to
build up the shopping mall, and motivates all of us to continue to be committed to serve our beloved Sabahan.
